  1. I have a great blog for inclusion in the guild, and its writer DeeDee is interested. She’s at http://disorderlychickadee.wordpress.com. Best, Candida

    • Hi again Candida,

Many thanks for nominating DeeDee’s blog. I am not familiar with her or the blog but will certainly check it out today and will take it from there 🙂

      Hope you are well
      Kind Regards

      Kevin

    • Hi Candida,

Just to let you know I checked out that blog and agree with you it would be great to include it into membership and so I have today added them to the list and contacted them letting them know. But I also wanted to let you know.

Many thanks for the suggestion and for ‘flying the guild flag’ so to speak.
      Kind Regards

      Kevin.

      • Thanks for letting me know–and I have been ‘flying the guild flag’–but this is Candida. Both start with “C”‘s, so understandable. So glad you’ll be inlcuding DeeDee–I think she’s a big asset. Thanks for all the work you do, Candida

        • Oooops,

Sorry Candida, my mistake and I hope you will accept my apologies. Yes that response was meant for you. Sometimes my brain does that to me. I had just been responding to your message about the award for Carla and it appears her name lodged in my mind somehow.

I have edited and corrected that response so it clearly shows it was meant for you. Hpefully that will remove any confusion.

          Once again my apologies.
          Kind regards,

          Kevin.

  2. There’s a lot of intense interest and emotion surrounding the upcoming publication of the DSM-5. See if you think it might be of some interest for members to submit pieces on the issues–either posts they’ve written, or that they’ve seen. Food for thought. Candida

    • Hi Candida,

Many thanks for the suggestion. I persoally only came across this proposed publication the other day when I was looking up something for a piece I was writing for my personal blog and I did wonder, being and Englishman living in Ireland and thus not directly affectd by it, just how big a deal it was in the states.

Following your advice, I have today posted a piece about it and that can be found here

      Many thanks and kind regards.

      Kevin.

  3. I am a survivor of physical, sexual, mental and emotional abuse. I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and Multiple Personalities. I have since integrated and been living as a healthy wholly integrated person since 2009. I would like to offer support and consolation to other survivors. How do I get started?

    • Hi E. Woods,

I am not sure how much help or advice I can really offer in terms of how you would personally offer support and consolation to other survivors but will of course try.

One possible way in which you could get involved would be to start and write your own blog focusing on the subjects which are within your terms of reference and close to your heart. This is an avenue many of us have taken in the hope that by sharing what we are going through we may encourage and help others.

Another possible route that you could read and/or follow other folks blogs and offer comment as an when you feel it appropriate or beneficial for you to do so. In this regard we do have a list of members on our Guild Members Page and most of those blogs are written by folk who have experienced their own struggles with mental illness or poor mental health.

Of course it is possible that other members reading comment will have alternative ideas and if that is the case I hope that they will also comment.

Many thanks for getting in touch and I hope my suggestions help.
Kind Regards and God bless you.
      Kevin.

  4. Hello.
Okay, so I was told about this site from a fellow blogger. I feel like I could truly share my experiences with ADHD to many others out there if I could join this group. I also have anxiety and maybe a bit of ocd as well as emotional issues as a result of the overall dark cloud that seems to ruin my life more than help it (aka, attention deficit disorder). ADHD has so many sides to it, and each person is effected by it a bit differently. I would love to join this group and share my perspective on living with it. So, if you could consider adding me to this group, that would be great. thanks! 🙂
    feathersofhappenstance.wordpress.com <— [that's my blog.]

    • Hi Feathers,

It is really good to hear from you and many thanks for getting in touch and for wanting to join our little group.

I am more than happy to include your blog “Feathers of Happenstance” in our membership list and in fact have just done exactly that. So welcome!

Please feel free to copy the member’s logo from that page and to display it on your site/blog if you wish to. As a member you are entitled to 🙂

You are also very welcome to join in any competitions that are run and to give out the Warrior Child Award to any blogger whom you feel is deserving of it. You will find details of that award on its own page within the navigation bar.

I should perhaps mention that due to many bloggers wishing to remain anonymous as a result of the stigma that still remains in respect of poor mental health and mental illness, membership to the Guild is awarded to the blog and not the blogger. The only way that this is relevant is that it means that should you have or start a second or further blogs membership of the Guild does not automatically transfer to that or those blogs and they must also be approved for membership.

I think that about covers it so all that remains for me to say is that if I can be of any help please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me here or through one of my personal blogs, http://www.VoicesofGlass.com and again “welcome to our little band of bloggers!”

Kind Regards and God bless you.
      Kevin

  5. Hello,
Thanks again for including my blog in your membership. However I am having a problem with posting your logo on my website. It will post the text but not the logo. It says it can’t find the file.

Your directions are a bit confusing because it says to copy and paste the file address in the same line. Copy to where? I know later on it says to put the file address in the text box which I have done but the directions seem to indicate that I am supposed to put the file address somewhere else as well.

Forgive me since I am mostly computer illiterate, I am still trying to learn. 🙂

    Thank you!

    • Hi Mary,

It is a common difficulty so don’t worry. Sadly it is difficult to post script within WordPress without WordPress then actioning that script but if you want to email me I can send you the script that you can copy and paste into the text box and which will solve the problem that you are having.

My email address for this blog is mentalhealthwritersguild@gmail.com

Kind Regards and God bless you
      Kevin.

  6. What a fabulous idea… a Mental Health Writer’s Guild. I would love to be a part of it if possible. I am writing about my daily life… having been diagnosed with PTSD. Although I write about other things in addition to PTSD I am not sure I qualify. Please check out my blog http://www.debhathaway.com and let me know what you think.

I am also writing a book about my husband’s passing of ALS and how he suffered from depression, but I didn’t understand he needed help.

    • Hi Deb,

Many thanks for getting in touch regarding membership of the guild for “debhathaway.com”.

  7. This is such a great idea! Thank you for putting an effort to bring together all these blogs! I to just started blogging about my experiences as a medical student with bipolar. Maybe one day I will qualify to be a member of the guild :).

    Thanks!

  10. Hello, I have a two-month old blog. I’m a single mother (and musician) who struggles with bipolar I disorder. Worth looking at to consider for now or in the future. http://taratrinity.wordpress.com

    • Hi taratrinity,

Many thanks for getting in touch and letting me know about your site “The Unholy Trinity”. Please accept my apologies for the delayed response but I am currently fighting though another bout of illness. Thankfully I think that I am now coming out of the other side of it. 🙂

      • Hello Kevin,

Thanks, this is great news 😉

Glad you’re feeling much better. I think something’s in the air.

Anonymity is no longer an issue for me. I’ve hid behind my illness for so many years and finally just want to be OUT of the mental illness closet! You just inspired me with another blog post.

As long as some sort of stability continues I shall be posting.

        Thanks again!

        Best,
        Tara Trinity

  11. Hi there. My former blog that I no longer use was in the Guild and I’d like the do the same with my new one as I found this a wonderful resource.

  12. Hi Kevin, my blog http://talkingthisandthat.wordpress.com is new (started three weeks ago) but has made it onto Freshly Pressed and is getting good reviews. I encourage you to check out the post “Why I Chose to Speak Out” which you’ll find on the menu at the top of the page. It gives the most comprehensive description of what I blog about and why. New projects coming up are one called “Dear Lucy” which is about letters from a birth mom to open eyes about adoption, and one yet-to-be-titled project about different people who are suffering and feel alone. It will contain pictures drawn by various people about what it looks like inside their head now, and how they want it to look inside their head instead. It is meant to give many different people a voice, even if they can’t write about it themselves, and to show that mental illness is something absolutely anyone can encounter.
If you like it, please let me know, I’d love to be part of the guild. Thank you.

      • Thanks Kevin! I am so excited to be part of this group! 🙂 Please make the previous comment with my email private so that it doesn’t show the the public. I’m likely to get a lot of spam otherwise 😉

  14. Does anyone know of a good online support group for bipolar depression? Where you can talk to others with the same thoughts feeling ect,,

    • Hi Shane,

There are forums around. For example on Psych Central. Click here to check it out. Personally I have no experience of them but other members might be able to give you more of an idea about them.

      Hope you are ok?
Kind regards and God bless you.
      Kevin

      • Thank you Kevin … I am ok just needing an outlet were people understand what bipolar actually feels like since my family really has no clue since they don’t have bipolar

        • Hi Shane,

In a lot of ways I am very glad to hear that your family don’t have bipolar and yet I also know first hand how this can isolate you. Actually I have just written about a similar and related thing on my personal blog, Always know you are welcome to talk to me. My email is a matter of public record – kevin.a.deane@gmail.com and of course there are lots of blogs which are members of the guild and which are written by folk who know what it’s like.

Kind regards and God bless you.

  15. Hi there, I’m wondering if people might be interested in a memoir I wrote back in the early 1990s. I think it has relevance to working through some mental health issues. Should anyone read it, I’d be interested in any thinking or questions they may have.
